The description of Ebay listing is an important part of every product. It’s the first thing customers read about your products, and it’s also one of the most important components to increase your search engine ranking and sales.

In Salestio we offer full flexibility in setting a Description template for Ebay Listing. And in this article, we will take a detailed look at possible options available.

Overview

Ebay is one of the biggest online marketplaces in the world. It’s a great way to sell your products, but you need an effective description of your products if you want to convert visitors into buyers.

There are many benefits of using a detailed product description for ebay:

  • Adding extra contact with a detailed product description
  • Helps avoid mistakes by customers when buying from you
  • Helps boost your customer engagement with personalized content
  • Provide details about special shipping or return conditions

But at the same time adding manually for every listing exactly the same content will require from you a lot of effort and manual operation. And most ebay sellers don’t have the time to write their own product descriptions from scratch. So description for the listing looks very standard with only text on it.

To help with such operations in Salestio – Ebay integration for PrestaShop and Shopify, we have a special feature named “Description Template”.

It enables you to create ebay listings descriptions based on a single shared template with predefined blocks that will be replaced by your product information.

And this helps you create listing descriptions quickly and easily and with a lot of important information for buyers.

Description Templates in Salestio

The Description templates are located in Salestio Shopify Integration, and Prestashop.

This description is applied only if you try to list to ebay one of your store products, or do a Full Revise by providing all configuration details.

In Salestio – Shopify Ebay Integration, it could be found under the ebay section, then Profiles, and then Description Template. To create a new template you need to click the “Add Description template” button.

For Salestio – PrestaShop eBay Integration (PrestaBay), description templates could be found under page Catalog>ebay>Selling Profiles>Description Templates.

To create a new template there, you need to click the button “New Description Template”.

The description template itself contains two sections, the name of the template how it will be represented inside Salestio, and the content of the template itself.

The edit field is the main area where you can insert your template or create a new one. Inside these fields, you can put some pre-defined text (like the condition of shipping or return), or insert special [variable] blocks that will be replaced with data about your store product. Like the name, and description of the block with the product gallery.

The template could be editable in two modes – Visual mode and HTML mode.

Visual Mode: This option allows you to edit existing visual elements like images and text boxes without learning any coding skills required in HTML mode. You can click on any element available in a visual mode such as an image or text box then change its properties such as size/color until it matches what you need before saving them onto eBay Marketplace Platforms. The main downside of visual mode, there is a limited styling option available. And it’s complicated to create and verify complex and modern templates.

HTML mode: This option allows you to write your own content using HTML code tags (great for developers/coders). In order to make text bold or italic, it’s important to use special tags. Also using special CSS is highly recommended. This mode won’t have any restrictions and we highly recommended it, especially when inserting your existing template.

Another important function of Ebay Description Templates, it’s preview function. Such functionality allows you to see how templates look like without sending or updating items on ebay. So you can adjust and test it multiple times without triggering eBay’s operation

To check how your template looks in preview mode, please first save your template and click on the button “Preview” and then generate it for a random product.

As result, you will see the completed template on your screen where all variables are replaced by the value of products.

How to create your own template

As a user, you have a few options on how you can create your own Ebay Description Templates.

  • Create on your own, using your store design and including all required blocks in it
  • Download one of the existing templates from free online resources and then integrated it into Salestio Ebay Integration
  • Purchase professional ebay description templates, and then integrated them into our Salestio application

Regardless of which option you choose, you need to pay attention to the following points.

  • Checks that the template doesn’t have any javascript code
  • Checks that you are not using iframe
  • Checks that all external resources like images and styles are included using HTTPS and not HTTP
  • Make sure that your description doesn’t include any external links

If your template has images, the best option will be to upload it to your server or CDN (as an example AWS S3)

To upload images to a remote server using an FTP client, follow these steps:

  1. Open your FTP client and connect to the remote server using your FTP credentials (hostname, username, and password).
  2. Once you are connected, navigate to the directory on the remote server where you want to upload the images.
  3. In the local directory on your computer, locate the images you want to upload.
  4. Select the images and drag them from the local directory to the remote directory on the server.
  5. The FTP client will begin uploading the images to the remote server. You can monitor the progress of the upload in the client’s interface.
  6. Once the upload is complete, you can view the uploaded images on the remote server.

Note: Some FTP clients may have slightly different interfaces and steps for uploading files. Consult the documentation for your specific FTP client for detailed instructions.

After the images are uploaded you will be needed to change the link to these images inside the template. The best option to do this, using HTML mode for the template.

If you are using existing description templates, you will need to change places in this template dedicated to the product title, and description with variables available in Salestio.

Variables in the Description Template

Below you can find a list of the most important variables

[product_name] — replaced with the name of your store product, based on the language selected for the Selling List
[product_description] — changed to a description of the product from your store

[product_new_gallery] — show a gallery with images for your products. This could be used in addition to the product gallery
[product_image(1)] — replaced with product image #1, this is used usually to highlight specific product features.

The full list of other variables supported by Salestio you can find on our documentation page

Use existing description templates

Use existing templates: If you are not interested in creating your own templates but simply want to use some predefined ones instead, then this option might be better suited for you. For example, you can use one of Salesito’s free Ebay Description Templates. Or you can purchase it online.

In any case, as a result of such a template, you will receive an HTML file with multiple images (optionally).

To integrate this template into Salestio, you will be needed first open it for editing in HTML mode.

Then copy all code you see, and paste it into Salestio. Please notice that you need to insert it using HTML mode. If you will try to insert it in Visual mode, the template will not work as expected.

As soon as you insert the existing template, please save it and click on Preview how it looks like.

Don’t forget that you will also need to replace placeholders in the template with the corresponding variable from the list of support variables in Salestio.
