The General Product Safety Regulation aims to set requirements for consumer products in the European Union and Northern Ireland markets. GPSR is a set of rules to make sure that products sold to consumers are safe to use. To work with the new laws, eBay will require additional details for listings in the mentioned markets. If you have customers in the EU or NI, keep reading to prepare the eBay listings with the Salestio integration.
Generally, products are considered safe if they don’t pose risks to people’s health, pets, property, or environment. Products that contain flammable materials, dangerous chemicals, electrical equipment, etc. should have the corresponding warnings.
Businesses must take extra steps to ensure that the products are properly labeled. To keep up with GPSR requirements, check products against safety standards, provide clear instructions and warnings if necessary, and recall products if problems are found after-sale.
European Union and Northern Ireland-based sellers should comply with the new regulations. eBay provides new tools and product fields to help sellers ensure compliance.
Aside from that, sellers in other countries should stick to GPSR requirements if they plan to sell their items in the EU or NI. For instance, if you are based in the US and offer international shipping to EU countries. Products that are not compliant with GPSR may not be visible to customers in the EU or NI.
If the manufacturer is not based in the EU or NI, an additional contact is required, called an EU Responsible Person.
The new GPSR law will be enforced starting from 13 December 2024.
We will break down the main points for the new fields. The available fields are the same for the eBay module and for the Salestio integration. Keep reading to find out how to add them in Salestio and in the module.
All the GPSR-related fields start with “Regulatory:”. Here are the details that should be added:
All the required fields can be added similarly for Shopify, Shopware, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce integrations. The new fields are available through the mappings in the Creation Profile for the whole Selling List or the Listing Creation Data editor for individual products.
Shopify sellers have the option to use metafields for all the fields above. For the “Product Safety Statement” and “Product Safety Pictogram” fields, the information should be provided as a code. Click the available options in the Creation Profile mapping to see how they convert into the respective codes, so you can add them to metafields.
As mentioned earlier, the same information can be added individually for each item inside of the Selling List. Find the item and click “Listing creation data” to edit:
The products are ready for listing after the Creation Profile is configured and selected for the Selling List. To publish the products, select them in the Selling List and click “Send to eBay”.
For cases when active products need to be updated with new GPSR data, run the Full Revise action instead:
For the PrestaShop integration, all GPSR-related fields can be edited in the Category Mapping (Catalog > eBay > Selling Profiles > Category Mapping).
If a Category Mapping is not assigned in the Selling Profile, the same details can be specified directly in the Selling Profile instead. Go to Catalog > eBay > Selling Profiles > Edit > Specifics to make the changes:
After the required details are added, it is time to send the product to eBay. To list a new product, select it in the list and click the “Send to eBay” action. To update an active one, click Revise > Full Revise instead:
Sharing full safety information is now crucial to stay an active seller in the EU. The updates to Salestio settings allow e-commerce merchants to prepare eBay shops for the new regulations and keep the platforms in sync.
