Amazon’s catalog hosts a huge number of products. Still, as a seller, you might need to add a brand-new item to the catalog in order to get it listed. The challenge is providing Amazon with all the little details and product specifics to get the product up.

Luckily, Salestio can help to automate this process. Today, we will show how to specify all the details in a Creation Profile and list new products on Amazon. If your products already exist in the Amazon catalog, check the simplified BigCommerce guide below:
Expand your BigCommerce store to Amazon with Salestio

Adding new items to the Amazon catalog is possible when all required permissions are present on the connected Seller account. To easily check this, we suggest listing one item under the same brand and category directly through Seller Central. After the item is listed successfully, continue with the guide.

Adding a Creation Profile

Creation Profiles provide a way to create and extend Amazon listing information with extra details and place the product into the correct category on the marketplace. All of the specific product details are defined here.

To add a new Creation profile, go to Salestio > Profiles > Creation profiles. Click the “Add Creation profile” button.

The Creation profile consists of 2 parts. The first one relates to the settings for all mappings inside the Creation profile. The second part is the mappings connecting BigCommerce products with Amazon categories. We will go into more detail about the mappings later in the article.

The first section contains general Creation Profile settings

First, pick a name for the profile. We will be listing T-shirts, so the name is “T-Shirts” to easily identify this profile later.

Select the marketplace where you want to create new Amazon listings. In the next steps, you will need to select the Amazon category. The category structure, as well as some product fields, depend on the marketplace. If you are listing on multiple marketplaces, please note that the category structure might be a bit different on different marketplaces, and each marketplace will need a separate Creation Profile.

The Listing title and Listing description are set to the default values to send the exact information from the BigCommerce product pages to Amazon.

We will leave the Listing Brand name on default to use the “Brand” information from the BigCommerce product page.

The number of images limits how many pictures are sent with each listing. This can be set up to 9 pictures.

Create a category mapping

Mapping in the Creation Profile is a rule that sets the correspondence between the selected BigCommerce categories from one side and the Amazon category with the required data from the other side.
The Mapping condition defines which BigCommerce products are to be included in this mapping line. We are listing an item from the T-shirts category, so the selection looks like below:

The mapping that we are configuring will apply to products from “Clothing>T-Shirts” in BigCommerce
  • The product must match all conditions below (this only matters if there are multiple conditions)
  • Product Category must match “Clothing > T-Shirts” in BigCommerce

The “all conditions”/”any condition” selector can be used to further customize the product matching. For example, if we use two conditions (category: Pants and category: Summer), the selector will change how the mapping is applied:

  • With “all conditions” selected, the mapping will apply to products that are in both categories (Pants AND Summer).
  • With “any condition” selected, the mapping will apply to products in either category (Pants OR Summer). This condition will also apply when the item is in both categories.

Next, we select the Category and Product Type for our T-shirts. For Amazon US, it happens to be the following:

After the Amazon Product Type is selected, you will be presented with a list of the available fields to add data. These are the all fields that are available on Amazon when creating a new listing. Some of them are required, others are optional. The required fields depend on the selected Amazon Category and Product Type.

Amazon requires at least one Bullet point (or Key Feature) for each listing, and you can add up to 5 of them. We will add some details about our products in three fields:

Key product details can be added to Bullet Points

Below are the required fields for the “Shirt” Product Type. Please keep in mind that some fields may change for different marketplaces.

Collar style, Model name, Manufacturer, Skip offer, Condition type, Gift options, Generic keyword, Lifestyle, Style, Department, Target gender, Age range description, Size system, Size class, Size, Body type, Height type, Fabric type, Item type name, Water resistance level, Special size type, Color, Fit type, Weave type, Care instructions, Is autographed, Back, Neck, Top style, Sleeve, Country of origin, Dangerous Goods Regulation, Outer material.

Consider the following tips for an easier time:

  • Always add data to the following fields: Manufacturer, Offering Condition Type, Country of Origin, and Dangerous Goods Regulation.
  • If some required fields are not really relevant to your products, enter “Not applicable” if this is the case.
  • If you would like to send more flexible values in the mapping, use the Custom fields from BigCommerce. Adding Custom fields allows to have additional information on each BigCommerce page, so Salestio can use them to fill out the specifics. Check the below article for more details about Custom fields and an example case with Salestio eBay integration:
Use BigCommerce Custom Fields to create eBay products via Salestio
  • It is better to add multiple mappings to one Creation profile instead of adding multiple Creation profiles. This way, you can also fit the products into a single Selling List.
For example, if you want to sell both T-shirts and pants in one Selling List, add two mappings. The condition for the first mapping is “category: T-Shirts”, and the second mapping is “category: Pants”. This way, Salestio will use a different mapping for different kinds of products even when they are in the same Selling List.

Configure variations

If the products include variations, enable it in the mapping and select the corresponding variation theme. Our T-shirts have variations in size, so we will select it in the corresponding field:

Enable variations and select the appropriate theme to enable

Because we have variations in size, this option has to be selected in the corresponding specific field, which is “Shirt Size Value” in our case:

Fill out the fields according to the products, and click “Add mapping” at the bottom of the page. Add multiple mappings if needed. After the mappings are added, they should appear in the “Mappings” section on the same page. Click “Create profile” to finish configuring the Creation Profile.

The new mappings will appear in the “Mapping” section

To make use of the new Creation Profile, you need to enable it in the Amazon Profile. Set marketplace mode to Single, select the marketplace, enable product creation, and pick the Creation Profile:

Enable product creation in the Amazon Profile

After making changes to the Amazon Profile, create a Selling List, and add some products.

Create a Selling List and publish

Let’s go back to the Selling List and send the products. Wait for 15 minutes, and the status should change to “Linked”:

Still, you might see some items go to an “Error” status. If that is the case, click on “Logs” to see what is missing. You can go back to the Creation Profile and add the missing fields at any time.

While creating listings on Amazon is a complex process, it can be streamlined with Salestio. You may need some time to set it up, but the completed profiles can be used to send products in batches and make bulk updates faster and easier.
