Amazon, eBay, and Etsy offer unique ways for buyers to personalize their purchases. In this article, we’ll explore the practical aspects of these customization features, helping sellers navigate the nuances and leverage them to enhance customer satisfaction and sales.

What is customization?

On Amazon, shoppers can customize products with their text, images, or logos — or from a list of options you provide. eBay allows the buyer to leave a Note at checkout, outlining their desires. Etsy allows a separate text field on the listing page, be it custom text on a t-shirt or a vision for the requested drawing.

These customization features allow sellers to meet individual buyer needs, making their products more appealing and increasing customer engagement and sales.

How does customization help sales?

Customization can significantly boost sales in several ways:

  1. Increased Customer Engagement: Personalized products create a deeper emotional connection with customers. When buyers have the opportunity to customize their purchases, they feel a sense of ownership and investment in the product, leading to increased satisfaction and loyalty.
  2. Higher Perceived Value: Customized items often have a higher perceived value. Customers are willing to pay more for products that are uniquely tailored to their preferences, leading to increased revenue for sellers.
  3. Market Research: Customization options provide valuable insights into customer preferences. Sellers can analyze these preferences to adapt their product offerings, leading to more informed business decisions and better-targeted marketing campaigns.
  4. Upselling and Cross-selling Opportunities: Through customization, sellers can offer additional options or upgrades, leading to upselling and cross-selling opportunities. For example, a customer customizing a piece of jewelry might choose a more expensive gemstone or add an engraving, increasing the overall sale value.

How to manage customized orders in Shopify?

Juggling the needs of each customer across Amazon, eBay, and Etsy can be no easy task. Luckily, you can streamline the process by fulfilling all of the above orders on a single platform. By using Salestio  — Shopify integration app, you can manage Amazon, eBay, and Etsy orders without keeping tabs.

All of the orders will look the same as any other Shopify order. For the customized ones, you will be able to see the message in the order notes.

When the order is received, you can fulfill it as any other Shopify order. After tracking is added and the order is marked as “Shipped”, Salestio will take care of updating this status to the original marketplace.

Do keep in mind that for the orders to appear in Shopify, SKUs of the ordered products must exist in Shopify. This will ensure that the Shopify order is created for the right item. By default, Salestio will download all orders automatically. All you need to do is add an account for the desired platforms, more on that for each platform below.

Setting up Amazon integration

To connect the Amazon account, head to Salestio > Amazon > Accounts and click “Add Account”:

Pick the account name (it will only be used inside the app). Select the appropriate Amazon marketplaces, agree with the Salestio terms, and click “Add Account”:

Follow the directions on Amazon to log in and allow access to the app. That’s it! After a few minutes, Salestio will start importing Amazon orders.

For orders with customization, a link will appear in the Notes block. You can follow the link to get the file with all of the customizations that the customer provided:

As mentioned before, the product SKU in the order determines if and how the order will be created. However, Amazon orders can fall back to matching products by title if no SKU is found. The picture below explains the logic more in-depth:

Setting up eBay integration

To connect the eBay account, head to Salestio > eBay > Accounts and click “Add Account”:

Pick account name (it will only be used inside the app), and click “Add Account”:

Log in on eBay and allow Salestio access. After a few minutes, new eBay orders will appear in Shopify. Below is an example of an order with customization notes:

Setting up Etsy integration
