Managing inventory across different sales channels can be challenging in today’s digital world. Each platform, from physical stores to online shops and third-party marketplaces, has its own unique requirements. Using the same SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) on all platforms helps businesses manage inventory better, reduce mistakes, and give customers a smoother experience.

In this article, we’ll explore what happens when SKUs vary on e-commerce platforms and suggested marketplaces.

Managing orders from multiple marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, and Etsy can be challenging, especially when product SKUs differ across platforms. Salestio simplifies this process by importing orders to Shopify based on matching SKUs. This ensures that orders are created with the correct products in Shopify.

Resolving Order Errors in Salestio

One of the most common errors when importing marketplace orders to Salestio is the following:

Salestio can’t export Amazon order #111-1111111-1111111 into your Shopify store.

Reason: Missing products in Shopify: SKU: XX-XXX-XXX

If you encounter an error with a specific order, follow these steps to correct it:

  1. Navigate to Orders: Go to Salestio > Orders in your Salestio dashboard.
  2. Locate the Order: Find the order that needs correction and click View to access the order details page.
  3. Change Product Information: Click the Change button under the product information section. This allows you to assign the correct Shopify product to the order.
  4. Export Updated Order: After assigning the correct product, an Export button will appear at the bottom of the Order Details block. Click this button to create the order on Shopify with the updated product SKU.
Change SKU on the specific order

This method is effective for fixing individual orders. However, for a permanent solution that applies to all future orders, implementing an SKU mapping file is recommended.

Implementing SKU Mapping Files

Here’s how you can effectively manage and resolve order import errors and implement a long-term solution with SKU mapping files.

SKU mapping allows you to connect products with different SKUs on Shopify and the connected marketplaces (Amazon, eBay, Etsy). This is particularly useful for ensuring accurate order imports across all platforms.

  1. Create an SKU Mapping File:
    • The file should contain two columns: Shopify SKU and Marketplace SKU.
    • Save the file in CSV format.
    • Create separate files for each marketplace if you use multiple integrations (Amazon, eBay, and Etsy).
  2. Upload the SKU Mapping File:
    • Go to Salestio > Settings.
    • Open the settings for the specific account you are updating (e.g., Amazon, eBay, or Etsy).
    • Scroll down to the SKU mapping file section.
    • Upload your CSV file.
    • Create an SKU Mapping File:

    • Save the file in CSV format.
    • Create separate files for each marketplace if you use multiple integrations (Amazon, eBay, and Etsy).
  3. Upload the SKU Mapping File:

    • Scroll down to the SKU mapping file section.
    • Upload your CSV file.
Upload the SKU mapping file to Salestio > Settings > Account-related Settings

By uploading the SKU mapping file, Salestio will use the mappings to import new orders with the correct products, based on the SKU mappings instead of the actual product SKUs.

Benefits of SKU Mapping

  • Consistency: Ensures that products in orders are always correctly matched, regardless of SKU discrepancies between Shopify and the marketplaces.
  • Efficiency: Reduces the need for manual corrections, saving time and minimizing errors.
  • Scalability: Facilitates smoother operations as your business grows and you integrate more products and marketplaces.

By leveraging SKU mapping in Salestio, you can streamline your order management process, maintain accurate product data across platforms, and enhance overall operational efficiency. This proactive approach ensures that your Shopify store operates seamlessly with Amazon, eBay, and Etsy, providing a better experience for both your team and your customers.

SKUs are not the only product identifiers used across the marketplaces. Check the recent article from our blog to find more details on how Salestio uses various product identifiers.
