Each Etsy listing has a limited time to stay visible on the marketplace. Today, we will explore the available options of renewing old listings on Etsy, as well as the related settings in Salestio to simplify this process.

Etsy listings remain active on the platform for 4 months or until the item sells. Sellers can choose to have the listings renew automatically or turn off this option. Renewing an existing listing instead of creating a new one has the upside of retaining the view count, number of favorites, and web address.

  1. Manual renewal: When a listing expires, sellers have to manually renew it from the Etsy Shop Manager. Etsy charges a 0.20 USD fee per listing in this case.
  2. Automatic renewal: With this option enabled, Etsy will renew the listing when it expires or a portion of the quantity is sold. In both situations, Etsy charges a 0.20 USD fee.

How to choose between Automatic and Manual renewal

Carefully considering the renewal method can help save time and money. We suggest paying attention to some key factors to ensure that the store runs efficiently and profitably.

Reasons to use Automatic renewal
  • High-demand products — Popular items that sell frequently benefit from automatic renewal so that they can stay active more often.
  • Made-to-order or digital products — Items like these don’t run out of stock, so Automatic renewal will keep them available at all times.
  • Less stressful and time-consuming approach — Leaving the listings on Automatic renewal will allow the peace of mind knowing that the items are available for sale. No need to track the expiration dates.
Reasons to use Manual renewal
  • More control over the renewal fees — You can decide whether some poor-performing items are worth renewing and potentially save on some fees.
  • Testing new products—When it is difficult to judge whether the new item will be popular, use the Manual mode. After the listing expires, you can check its metrics and decide if it should be added to the shop’s regular stock.
  • Seasonal items or special offers — Items that will not be relevant year-round are more efficient to list during their season. You can manually renew them when the right time of year comes again.

How to configure renewal options in Salestio

To pick the renewal mode between Manual and Automatic, create a Selling List in Salestio. The renewal setting can be changed in the Selling Settings section during the setup:

For an existing Selling List, the renewal setting can be accessed using the “Edit” button on the list that you want to change.

If your store has multiple groups of items that would require Manual or Automatic renewal, we suggest creating multiple Selling Lists. This way, each group of items can have its own Selling List with different settings.

Sorting items into multiple Selling Lists can have other upsides. For example, one Selling List is for the usual listings, and another is for special offers with a limited stock. Learn about advanced stock settings in Salestio below:

Updating existing listings

When some listings were already linked in a Selling List, they have to be updated to apply the new settings. After changing the renewal setting in the Selling List settings, update the existing listings. Select the Selling List and run the Update action:
