Today we would like to give you a detailed guide on how to export Shopify products to the eBay marketplace. To do this we will use our Shopify application — Salestio — Ebay & Amazon Integration

The guide is updated in April 2024 with new changes introduced by ebay

Just in case you missed our previous blog post on how to create an account and start selling on eBay, you can read it by following this link.

So, now you have created your eBay account, and want to export your Shopify products to eBay.

At this point, we assume that you have already installed Salestio in your Shopify store. You may use it already to sync Shopify products with your Amazon Seller Central account. Now you can also use it to integrate the Shopify store with the eBay marketplace.

Please open the Salestio application and click the ‘eBay’ link in the top right corner.

Access eBay integration from Salestio UI

Add eBay Account

Start by adding your eBay account to Salestio. To do so, navigate to the Accounts tab and click the ‘Add eBay account’ button. You will be redirected to the ‘Add account’ page.

Add your eBay account to Salestio

The first thing is to add your account name. It is used across the application. Put anything that will be recognizable for you.

The next thing is to select a mode. eBay allows you to test your listings in Sandbox mode. You would need a separate account for this purpose. Follow this link to create a sandbox account on eBay.

Click the ‘Add account’ button

Grant Application Access from your eBay account

Then you will be redirected back to Salestio. Click ‘OK’ in the pop-up window, and let’s proceed to set the needed configurations.

To illustrate the step-by-step instructions, we will send to eBay one of our existing Shopify products Gibson Explorer Antique Natural Guitar. We will send this product to the German marketplace.

Before sending Shopify products to eBay, you should set rules on what and how attributes and values will be displayed on eBay. In terms of Salestio, these rules are called Profiles. They are Global, eBay Creation Profiles, and Description Template. Let’s look into them and set them one by one.

Global Profile

This is a set of rules which defines how Shopify price and stock will be sent to eBay. Salestio allows setting custom stock and custom prices, adding price ratios for eBay products. If nothing is set specifically, Shopify products will be exported to eBay with the exact same price and stock as on Shopify. Here on the screenshot, the price ratio is set to 1.2. It means that eBay products will be displayed at a 20% higher price than on Shopify.

Set 20% price margin in Salestio

The ‘Default’ Global Profile is added after you install Salestio. You can modify it or create a new one. To create a new Global Profile, navigate to the Profiles tab, select Global Profiles, and click the ‘Add Profile’ button.

eBay Profile

The next is to add an eBay profile. To do so, please navigate to the Profiles tab, select eBay Profiles, and click the ‘Add Profile’ button. Here you can select the marketplace, listing type (auction or fixed price), duration (1, 3, 5, 7, 10, GTC), image settings, ‘shipped from’ location, and product dimensions that allow calculating shipping.

At this point, we support only the Fixed Price listing type and GTC (Good Till Canceled) listing duration. More coming soon!

Remember to select the Creation Profile. The list of available Creation Profiles will be shown after the marketplace is selected. More on Creation Profile in the next section.

eBay Profile settings in Salestio

When all is set, just click the ‘Add Profile’ button. After that, this eBay Profile will be displayed in the list of eBay Profiles and it will be possible to select it when creating a new Selling List.

If you want to send Shopify products to multiple marketplaces, make sure to create a separate eBay profile for each marketplace.

Creation Profile

Creation Profiles in Salestio is a way to create and extend eBay listing information with extra details and place the product into the correct Category on the eBay marketplace.

Creation Profile is a required field to add an eBay Profile. It means that the Creation Profile should be added prior to creating a corresponding eBay profile. To make the connection between an eBay Profile and a Creation Profile, the marketplaces on both profiles should match.

The Creation Profiles section is located along with other profiles and can be accessed via the main menu and the Creation Profiles tab. To start adding a Creation Profile, click the ‘Add Creation Profile’ link.

Add Creation Profile button

After giving a name to your Creation Profile and selecting a marketplace, you should set a mapping. A mapping is a way to place Shopify products to the selected eBay category and provide additional attributes to the product.

There are 2 types of mapping conditions in Salestio — Product Type and Collection. Depending on the Shopify product page values and needed configuration, you can select any of them or even combine them. Then you will be able to select the needed Category for your products.

Here is how the mapping for our Guitar looks in the Creation Profile.

Guitar Mapping in the Creation Profile

Then you will be presented with the list of fields. These are the attributes that give your buyers more understanding of your products. Some fields are required and some are optional depending on the product type. In our example, the required fields are the Item Condition, Brand, and Product type.

On eBay, these attributes are usually called Item Specifics.

Required fields for Guitar mapping

You can add multiple mappings to the Creation Profile, just keep in mind that mapping conditions should be unique for each mapping.

Once all needed mappings are added, remember to save the Creation Profile. To do so, just click the ‘Add Profile’ button, or the ‘Save Changes’ button if you are at the point of editing the Creation Profile.

Description Template

The next step in the configuration is to add the Description template. Salestio allows the creation of an advanced Description Template for eBay Items.

Description Template in Salestio is a way to set a custom template for the eBay Item Description. Description Template is required to create a Selling List and send your Shopify products to eBay.

To access existing Description Templates and create new ones, navigate to the Profiles tab from the application menu, and select the Description Templates subtab. Click the ‘Add Description template’ button to create a new template.

Add Description template in Salestio

The first time you add your eBay account to Salestio, the default Description Template gets created for you. The only variables added to the default template are Product Name, Product Description, and Product Image. This is a simple template that can totally be used if you do not want to add anything else to the Item Description on eBay. You can modify this template, or create a new one if you want.

Variables in the Default Description template

This simple template perfectly works to send the Guitar to eBay, so we will use it without any changes. Although you can modify it per your needs, especially if you want to look it super fancy with the custom HTML coding.

Please also take a look at this detailed guide related to description templates — eBay Description Templates: Make Beautiful Descriptions Faster

At this point, all needed configuration is added, and we are ready to proceed to creating a Selling List and sending the Guitar to eBay.

Create Selling List

To create a new Selling List in Salestio navigate to the Selling Lists tab and click the ‘Add Selling List’ button.

You will start by entering a name to your Selling Profile. Again, anything descriptive for you. Then you should select an eBay account and marketplace. Please note that other fields like Profiles and Policies might not be available until these 2 are selected.

You should also select a Selling List Mode. You can choose between Product and Collection. Product Mode allows you to add the needed products manually. You have more control over it what goes to this Selling List. Collection Mode allows you to add the whole Shopify Collection to the Selling List. It saves you some time by automatically adding new products to the Selling List when you update the Collection on Shopify.

Create Selling List

The next step is to add the Profiles that we discussed above. If some of the created Profiles are not displayed, make sure that the correct marketplace is selected.

Then you should add Business Policies. This is a set of rules that define available Payment options, Shipping, and Return Policies for buyers.

Business Policies are available depending on the selected marketplace. If none of the policies are displayed after you select the marketplace, go to your eBay account, and make sure that these policies are added specifically for this marketplace.

At this point, Salestio can only show those policies that are added to your eBay account. If you have not yet added any policies, please add them directly to your eBay account. After that, they will be available to select when you create a new Selling List.

Profiles and Business Policies

When all is set, click the ‘Add Selling List’ button to save the form.

Exporting Shopify Products to eBay

If you select the Product mode when creating a Selling List, you will see an empty page when opening a Selling List. Let’s add our Guitar. To do so, please click the ‘Add Products’ button. You will see a list of products from your Shopify store. You can do a search to find the needed products. We searched for ‘Guitar’ to find our example product. Then select the item or items and click the ‘Add’ button.

Add Selling Product to the Selling List

When the Selling Product is just added to the Selling List, it will appear in the ‘Not Active’ status. It simply means that the product has not yet been sent to eBay. Actually, it even gives you a hint saying that it was not published. The ‘View on eBay’ link is greyed out at this point. This is fine for now.

To send the product to eBay, you should select the product in the Selling list, and click the ‘Send to eBay’ button. The status will change to ‘Pending Linking’.

Click the ‘Send to eBay’ button to start the export process

Yay!.. Our Guitar is linked. You can click the View on eBay link to see how it looks on eBay. It shows you the price and stock as on the Shopify store.

Important! If you are a new eBay seller, you may have ebay limits connected to your account. Please take a look at this article to find a possible way of solving these limits errors — Selling limits on eBay explained: possible solutions

The ‘Linked’ status means that products on both platforms are synced. So, every time stock and price are updated on Shopify, they will be updated on eBay. If you want to do a custom revision or stop your eBay listings, select the products in the Selling List, hit ‘More Actions’, and click the action you want to execute.
