Proper tagging of the marketplace listings goes a long way in reaching the most customers. Adding the right tags and keywords improves the searchability of items, and allows to attract a more targeted audience.

In today’s article, we explore the tools available in Salestio to manage the keywords for Amazon, eBay, and Etsy.

How to come up with the right keywords

As a general option for all platforms, learn from the search bar suggestions. Try typing keywords into the search bar on Amazon, eBay, or Etsy and note the autocomplete options. These are the queries that customers use.

Check out the customer reviews for similar items. Noting what words customers use to describe the products will give some insight into the right keywords to use.

To get more professional, you can try various keyword research tools. These tools can give you insights into the search volume, estimated orders per month, and detailed marketing metrics.

How marketplaces use keywords

Different platforms offer different ways to incorporate tags and keywords into the listing.

  • Amazon has a specific Backend Keywords field that is visible only to sellers. The keywords entered here influence how the product shows up in the search results, so adding the proper tags can net a significant boost in visibility.
  • Etsy features Tags to allow sellers pick the key features of the item and appear in the relevant search results. It is best to utilize all 13 tag slots to get the best use of them.
  • Specifying the keywords on eBay is possible by adding the most accurate category and filling out the specific fields for each product. eBay allows customers to filter the items by specifics, so adding the right ones will help the listing to connect with the target customers.

Set up Salestio to use your keywords

In Salestio, most of the product details are configured in the Creation profile. This profile is used to map the product groups from your e-commerce store to the right categories and item specifics on the marketplace.

Amazon

For Amazon, the keyword field is part of the mapping for any specific product category in the Creation profile. To add the keywords, create a mapping, pick the categories, and the product type. Find the “Generic Keyword” field and list the keywords there. Mappings support metafields, so adding them here is an option:

eBay

For eBay, make sure to fill out as many product specifics as possible. After adding a Creation profile and picking the category, scroll down to the specifics section and see what details you can add. Most categories feature fields like “Style”, “Materials”, “Theme”, “Occasion”, so making proper use of those will help the listings get more visibility.
