If your store is going global, offering multiple languages is a sure way to engage more customers. E-commerce platforms offer multiple ways to preset the store in multiple languages. Today we explore the available tools to translate your Shopify or BigCommerce store and how to get these translations sent to online marketplaces.
Shopify presents your store in the primary store language. If you add product translations, customers can read product descriptions, check out, and receive notifications in the selected language.
You can export a CSV file from your Shopify store that you can edit manually. To get the file, navigate to Settings > Languages > Export. Select the languages that you want and click Export to download the file. In a few minutes, you will get an email with the translation file.
To add your translations, edit the Translated content column in the exported file. After adding the translations and saving changes, you can import the file to Shopify again:
Navigate to Settings > Languages > Import and select the edited file. After the import is finished, you will also receive an email confirmation.
The platform offers a free app for product translations: Shopify Translate & Adapt. For more options, the Shopify App Store has a wide selection of free and premium apps, so feel free to select the one that works the best for you:
BigCommerce allows configuring the store language and translating some of its contents. Check the Settings > Store profile page and scroll to the Locale section to edit the specifics:
Most store pages can be auto-translated. To enable this, tick the box on Enable automatic translation based on shopper’s browser language.
BigCommerce Apps & Integrations offer additional options to translate your store, including translations for product titles and descriptions. Check out the app store to find the app that works best for you:
Salestio can list the items from your e-commerce store on Amazon, eBay, and Etsy. You can try the app here. Keep in mind that Salestio is not a translation app. You need to have translations configured in Shopify before the app can pick them up and send them to the marketplace.
When you create new eBay and Etsy listings, Salestio will use the translations from product pages. The translation will be selected based on your Selling List settings:
Selecting a specific language here will make Salestio use this translation from your Shopify store. When you add an item to an eBay or Etsy Selling List and send it, its title and description will be in the specified language.
If you have existing listings on the marketplace, you can update the product information in a new language:

Products in the Amazon catalog are displayed based on the marketplace. For instance, all product pages on Amazon France are already presented in French, and this information (title, description, etc.) cannot be changed by sellers.
If you are selling an item on Amazon, buyers will see you as a new seller on the same product page. Before submitting your listings through Salestio, make sure to select the correct marketplace in the Selling List settings:
